 How adopting the London Living wage enhances service provision

What is the London Living Wage?

The London Living Wage for 2018 was released on 6th November and has risen by 4.6% from £9.75 to £10.20.
It is independently calculated every year to meet the real cost of living. This covers all boroughs in Greater London.    
It has been driven largely by higher inflation, particularly from higher private rents and transport costs.

 

 

How does the Living Wage affect you?

It's understandable to think that the Living Wage doesn’t affect you or your businesses directly. We also understand that spending more, for intangible gain, is a hard sell!
However: achieving value, is at the heart of what the Living Wage is all about. Delivering value, is at the heart of what any good service provider does.

In the coming months, we will be talking more about the fact that:

  • Early living wage adopters protect themselves against the downward trend in net migration and are able to retain good staff.
  • It also means that we can invest more time and effort in training and developing staff, instead of recruitment.
  • Employee satisfaction and length of service is higher

 


Of course, the Living Wage is also an enabler for social mobility and an answer to future proofing service delivery.

Here at Bespoke we believe there is more we can do as a business to educate and lead on the subject. Despite what we have experienced, research by KPMG shows that 5.5 million people across the UK, or 21 per cent of the workforce in 2017, are still paid less than the Real Living Wage.
